Discover the Story Behind the Spotlight

Mary Valdovinos is a dedicated advocate for second chances, drawing from her own journey of resilience and transformation to inspire and empower others. Once an honor student with the opportunity to study abroad, Mary's life took an expected turn at 17, leading to years of substance abuse and involvement with the justice system. However, she has since reclaimed her life, celebrating sobriety and successful reentry.

Today, Mary serves as a Case Manager, Peer Coordinator, and Program Manager for social justice organizations in Connecticut. She was elected Program Manager for Her Time Stamford, a thriving women’s social justice group dedicated to empowering and uplifting women in the community. Her dedication to helping others rebuild their lives has earned her prestigious accolades, including the 2023-24 Taking Strides Award, the 2024 Bridgeport Reentry Award for Personal Achievement, and the title of Reentry Professional of the Year.

Further recognized as one of 2024’s Top 100 Women of Color in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts, Mary exemplifies the power of perseverance and the profound impact of giving back to her community. Through her advocacy and professional roles, Mary continues to champion the belief that everyone deserves a second chance to rewrite their story.
